You always wanted to learn self-defense.
Learn everything you need in 10 lessons.

Most people believe it takes years to learn self-defense. It doesn’t. Soldiers and cops learn it in just days, and so can you. Jim Wagner’s proven modern self-defense system Reality-Based Personal Protection has been used by elite police and military teams worldwide for over a decade. But, don’t let that intimidate you. This civilian version is exactly what you need to protect yourself and loved ones against today’s crime and terrorism. No previous martial arts training is required, and every technique can be mastered in just five minutes. If you go to our website and see who Jim Wagner has trained, you will know that we are not joking. We can transform you, giving you the skills and confidence you need. Really.

At the pace and level you feel comfortable with, even if you have physical limitations, we will prepare you both physically and mentally for today's violence using internationally recognized safety standards; standards Jim Wagner helped to create.

This is the only complete civilian self-defense system in the world, and the original reality-based system recognized by the world's leading martial arts magazines. By "complete" we mean that you will not only learn how to survive armed and unarmed conflict, but you will be given detailed instructions in pre-conflict and post-conflict; things you must be aware of before a conflict and what you must do after a conflict. By "reality-based" we mean the term that Jim Wagner coined to describe self-defense training that is as realistic as it gets; the very same teaching methods as the police and military, and Jim Wagner should know: former soldier, corrections officer, police officer, SWAT officer, diplomatic bodyguard, United States Federal Air Marshal, bodyguard for celebrities, currently a Reserve soldier in a military police unit, and who has also been training civilians for over 20 years. He knows how to take a beginner and make them into an expert, and make experts better.

So, who comes to take these lessons? Just about everybody: college students, housewives, business professionals, concerned parents, travelers, black belts, and government officials because we teach many life saving skills that others simply do not.. Even many police and military personnel take our civilian lessons to fill in the gaps where their own training lacks. For very little time and money you can finally get what you know you need from experts who will take you step-by-step through a process that is much easier than you think.

CLICK HERE for a description of the 10 lessons, each 8 hours, that will change your life by opening your eyes to the dangers around you, giving you situational awareness, and instilling self-confidence that will stay with you for a lifetime.

Jim Wagner, the founder

The reason Reality-Based Personal Protection is the “original reality-based martial art” is not just because Jim Wagner coined the phrase back in 1999, but because of his background that few self-defense instructors can match: former soldier, corrections officer, street cop, SWAT team officer, diplomatic bodyguard, counterterrorist Special Agent for the United States government after 9/11, police and military firearms instructor, tactics instructor, and defensive tactics instructor.

Although an operator in the military and law enforcement communities for two decades Jim Wagner’s popularity with the civilian martial arts community began with his monthly column HIGH RISK back in 1999 in the world’s oldest and most popular martial arts publication Black Belt magazine, which is read by over 100,000 readers worldwide. In 2006 he was inducted into the Black Belt Hall of Fame as Self-Defense Instructor of the Year by the readers. This is the “Academy Awards” of the martial arts world. On the other side of the ocean Jim Wagner writes for Budo International, Europe’s largest martial arts magazine appearing regularly in several languages each time: French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish, and English. Budo International also inducted him into their Hall of Fame in 2006 for Outstanding Achievement for creating the Reality-Based martial arts.

If becoming an instructor certified in the system is not for you, you can still learn the same techniques and training methods from any one of Jim's Reality-Based Personal Protection Directors worldwide. The "Directors" are Jim Wagner’s top instructors. If you are not close to any of the Directors, or do not wish to travel, then perhaps an instructor under these Directors could train you in what you need to learn. Every Reality-Based instructor listed on this website, or on the directors’ websites, have all been personally taught and certified by Jim Wagner. However, pay attention! Some instructors are more current than others.  Dallas/Ft. Worth, Texas being Jim's United States of America Headquarters makes us the most up to date on the system!
